Why Strong Leaders Sometimes Lose Their Team

Most people think strong leadership means moving fast, making decisions quickly, and driving results relentlessly.

That’s often the strength of the D personality style in the DISC model of human behaviour.
The
“D” stands for Dominance… people who are typically decisive, direct, competitive, and highly results-oriented.

These leaders are often visionaries. They take action quickly, embrace challenges, and are comfortable making tough decisions under pressure.

But here’s the blindspot…

When leaders operate too heavily in Dominance without understanding behavioural awareness, they can unintentionally steamroll people around them. What feels like efficiency to them may feel intimidating or dismissive to others.

The result?

  • communication breakdowns

  • disengaged team members

  • reduced trust

  • and unnecessary conflict

Great leadership is not just about getting results.
It’s about getting results
through people.

The DISC model helps leaders understand how their natural tendencies impact communication, culture, performance and why self-awareness changes everything.

Because sometimes the strongest leaders in the room are the ones who learn how to slow down long enough to truly connect.
